These are what I heard some time before, and may not be the facts now.

How are mini images any more illegal than a backup image? Anyways, I would use the actual backup images if I can.
I use an external HDD to store a catalogue of CDs/DVDs of drivers, software, games and music that i bought. I want to preserve them as much as I can by not using them again and again. This is one of the biggest reasons I invested in software like Alcohol 120%. It's also easier to look for an image on one place rather through a pile of boxes, cases, and sleeves. Games that have protection that prevent one from using images from the CDs/DVDs that one actually owns/purchased/licensed are actually very annoying.
