Trying to backup my games with Alcohol and am a little confused on whether my Yamaha CD burner is capable. I do know that it is incapable of RAW DAO, but as you can see below it supports normal DAO, RAW SAO, RAW SAO+SUB, TAO. So my question is whether the write methods available to me are capable of duplicating images to CDR so they can be run on my modded PS1 and which is best?

Here is a system info report:

Best way would just be to choose the Playstation profile and burn at a slow speed.

Thanks for replying. Not many people seem to be able to answer my questions.

When I select the Playstation profile the write method automatically switches to RAW SAO+SUB. Will this produce similar results to RAW DAO as long as the disc is closed and what if the image format does not contain subchannel information in a separate file? I can foresee problems here in that if the image format is like bin/cue this method might burn coasters?

So is it better to burn bin/cue (ie formats not including subchannel data) using RAW SAO method and all formats including subchannel data (e.g .ccd + .sub + .img) with RAW SAO+SUB?

Playstation disks have subchannel data so you need the RAW SAO+SUB method. On the other hand your cue/bin images are probably useless since they don't contain the subchannel data.

I tried backing up my Breath of Fire .ccd, .img & .sub and got "Focus Servo Failure" and the disc is now a coaster. Why did this happen?

Maybe your disk is dirty or have any scratches? As for the particular error message please wait to be read by somebody who knows more.

This error message could mean that something may be wrong with your drive!

You could also try remaking the image off the original disc using Alcohol's native MDF/S format and not the Clone CD format.

Perhaps you are right. After a bit of research I found that Focus servo error caused by:

1. Bad disc media (unlikely since I have tried two different types of CDR)
2. Dirty lens head (unlikely since I used a CD cleaner disc)
3. Power fluctuations (I don't have a clue about this)
4. Crapped out burner (perhaps as it is 7+ years old. But then again it reads discs fine)

Well, reading and burning are two different functions. Try to burn another image and/or to burn something with another program e.g. Nero. Try also to burn the image with another drive. However the odds are that your burner doesn't properly function anymore.
