Yes, it does (however note that ISO can not contain/emulate the details of a copy protected disc with e.g. SecuROM or StarForce copy protection).

I play a lot of games and I'm planning on using this so that I can basically get rid of all the discs. For newer AND older games, what do I need to know? On top of anything you can tell me, can you also post a link to somewhere that explains the different copy protection types and how to tell which game uses which type? I'm fairly new to .ISO's and virtual drives in general.

You need to know the copy protection of the disk so as to use the correct Alcohol datatype and a place that you can find it is the Alcohol's copy protection database
