Hello, today I reinstalled Windows 8.1 and when trying to reinstall Alcohol 120, Windows gives me a known incompatibility problem and I can not install it.
Please help. A week ago I installed it without any problem in Windows 8.1 but it is possible that new updates have made it incompatible.

Thanks

Are you installing the latest version (2.0.2.5830)?

I am having trouble installing Alcohol on Windows 8.1 as well. I am trying to install the latest version. It does install the sp driver, but every time i restart my tablet it just says the same thing, it asks me to restart the computer. I have tried technical support via email it, but with no luck. I have turned off all firewalls and antivirus programs, but for some reason it will still not install. The program installs on my other windows 7 machine, but not on windows 8.1. I'm trying to install it on a windows dell venue 8 pro which can be buggy at times, but for the most part it is stable. This is the first time that a program has been unable to install.

Its a Dell Venue Pro 8. I'm running Windows 8.1 with a 1.33Ghz quad core intel atom Z3740D processor. The tablet came out last November. The tablet was little "buggy" for the first two weeks, but after a few updates it seems to run a little smoother. I've been using Alcohol for years on my other machines and like to get it to run on my tablet, but i just haven't been able to. This is the first program out of all that I have installed on my tablet that is not installing. I'm curious to know if its the Alcohol program that is the problem, Windows 8.1 OS, or the tablet itself. I've tried looking on line as to what is the cause, but it doesn't seem like its the tablet itself so I'm assuming its the OS or program.

Does it try to install the SPTD driver again or it just asks for a reboot?

To me it looks like it installs the driver. After that it asks for a reboot. After I reboot it asks again to reboot which I do and the cycle starts again. I never see the SPTD install again as I said it earlier that part seems to install properly.

Please try this:

Could you please remove both Alcohol and SPTD from your System if installed then reboot, you may have to boot in to safe mode to do this.

To do this download this tool  http://forum.alcohol...s/sptdremov.exe  run it,

If you cannot uninstall Alcohol using the uninst.exe from the program folder simply delete the Alcohol folder

then open Regedit and navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\sptd"

and delete it (you may need to change the permissions to do this including permissions forthe SPTD/cfg key).

Then try and re-install SPTD using the standalone Installer, after your Computer has re-booted

run the installer again to verify that SPTD is installed.

If SPTD is not detected and you are asked to reboot again please check the SPTD key for a r0 key

if this exists then please delete then try and install SPTD again,

once SPTD has been successfully installed you will be able to install Alcohol,

if problems persist please check the System Eventlog Viewer for any SPTD related

error messages if there are any present please send them to me including the binary bytes.

I first uninstalled the SPTD driver using the uninstaller and the reinstalled it. I restarted the tablet and tried to verify the driver was installed and it said their was no SPTD driver so I went to regedit and navigated to sptd. I tried deleting it, but I got a window saying that their was an error deleting the key. I changed the permissions as best as I could, checking in all the boxes to "allow" restarted the tablet and tried again deleting the key with the same window popping up saying their was an error deleting the key. Can you please explain how to check the System Eventlog Viewer?

Inside the SPTD key there is a cfg one, try deleting it first after changing the permissions. You can have access to the System Eventlog Viewer from the Computer Management Console, rightclick on "My Computer" and then click on "Management".

I found the SPTD r0 key and was able to delete it, installed the SPTD driver, but I am having the same problem. When I try to install Alcohol it asks to restart every time i try to install Alcohol. I did go the the system event log and did find the same "error" for the SPTD driver. The following is the copied text:

If the SPTD driver is installed (you verified it with the installer, didn't you?) then it mustn't be the problem anymore. When you say that it asks to restart every time you try to install Alcohol you mean after the end of the installation? You can also try installing Alcohol in safe mode (Settings symbol in the right sidebar>Changing the computer settings>General>Advanced start options, at least that's how it goes in Windows 8).

I verify the installation of the SPTD driver by running the SPTD installer after I restart the tablet. When I do this it states that no SPTD driver is present. I will do the reinstallation of the SPTD driver again and repost. Am I doing the verifying process correctly? I don't remember ever seeing the SPTD installer saying that the SPTD driver is successfully installed.

Hello Jonathan,I am afraid that Alcohol will not work because it only runs on computers with x86 based processors, the Dell Venue Pro uses an Atom based processor.

Robbo, I think that Intel Atom is a x86 processor, there are some tablets that do use x86 processors and have the normal Windows 8(.1), not the Windows 8(.1) RT that the ones with ARM processors have.

@Jonathan

Have you deleted the SPTD key before trying to reinstall SPTD (along with the r0 key)? You can do it if you first delete the cfg key inside it after changing the permissions as I said.

Here is what i last did:

1. Uninstalled the SPTD driver using the uninstaller.

2. Restarted the tablet.

3. I went to regedit to see check for any keys referencing "SPTD". None were present.

4. Turned off my firewall and anitvirus program.

5. I installed the SPTD driver using the installer.

6. Received windows stating you need to reboot for change to take effect.

7. Restarted tablet.

8. Proceeded to install the trial version of Alcohol. Received window stating setup must restart windows and continue installation after reboot. Would you like to continue?

9. Selected yes. Restarted tablet.

10. Proceeded to install the trial version of Alcohol.

11. Received window asking which language. Selected english.

12. Received window stating you must reboot after previous operation.

13. Restarted tablet.

14. Proceeded to install the trail version of Alcohol again.

15. Received window asking which language again. Selected english again.

16. Received window stating you must reboot after previous operation again.

The above cycle begins again. All of the above was not done in windows safe mode. Maybe its my processor. Curious if any Alcohol users have successfully installed on a Dell Venue 8 Pro.

Perhaps you should try in Windows safe mode. There may be a hardware or software incompatibility with Alcohol, other users also had problem installing Alcohol on this device.

Anyone has a solution. I really need those drives.

Please post a system report from within Alcohol so as to see your system specs.

Will have to run Windows in safe mode every time I use Alcohol or just to install it?
