I installed alcohol 52% just to make a few iso's from time to time. I used Alcohol products years and years ago, and decided it was time to try out the latest.
When I installed the free version, I knew it would require me to install this "smart file advisor" while being able to opt out of the other bloat. I am one who ends up buying a product after trying it, but I'm having trouble accepting the way the trial is offered to users.
This smart file advisor is anything but. It has already falsely asked me to "update" two programs, and I only installed it yesterday. The latest one troubles me greatly. I know it's not forcing me to update anything, but the popups are not just annoying, they are incorrect. A non-computer savvy person could easily end up installing an older version of their malware detection software. I captured both the pop-up and the actual MalwareBytes version information screen and included a link below.
I understand the need for including options for revenue from "free" versions of software, but I also believe that the options included should be scrutinized by the software author and removed if found potentially unsafe.
Thank you for your time.
