I think 40% of system RAM is too much!
I have a system with 1100 processor, 512MB RAM and a 32X burner: Alcohol automatically selects 128MB.....
With modern burner from 24-32X to 48X (with buffer underrun protection) and a low-middle PC (around 800-1200 MHz with 128-256 MB RAM), I think DEFAULT buffer must be around 12-24MB (~10% of system RAM). Of course users can set it from 4 to 128! Personally I use 4MB, it's enough!
Default Buffer

i already requestion a higher ram people need the higher ram to stop bufferunder runs when writeing from a 48x dvdrom to 48x liteon burner sometimes the ram isnt enough
we should get the option dont you ? set alcohol to what ever default you want but make shure the owner gets the rights to bump up as much ram as he wants
i prefer :256meg ram out a my 512ram
so please all i say is give the payer what he prefers not what other people prefer ok
cheersl,

I think like you mapi.. much people preffer to dump image in HD and after burn it... and other like me, can't do it on the fly... my only plextor don't le me do it :/
but mapi, think... what is one of the firsts things you do when you try a new soft?? (burning, drawing,......) The first i do, is looking a bit what can i do with it, and after, see options and custom it... don't you? Is one of the first things usually people do... so they can see if there's too buffer and change it..
