I am running windows 10 and installed 120% but I cannot get a virtual drive. I have another windows 10 PC where this is not a problem.

On this new PC I get the "applying the virtual drive message please wait" but no virtual drive is created. I tried a clean install of windows 10 and its the same result.

I have an ASUS Z370 Main board 2 x Pioneer 16x BD burners. a solid state sata boot drive and second solid state HD and a third SATA standard hard drive

Please don't doublepost. I deleted your other topic since it had basically the same content.

Probably your problem has to do with KB4462933. If you have it installed you must uninstall it in order to make virtual drives. This is a known issue and the Development Team is working on it.

Morning,

Are you referring to the Windows KB article (https://support.micr...ate-kb4462933)?

Or is that a KB in Alcohol Soft's knowledge base? If so, can you provide a link to that entry - I looked but couldn't find it.

It is the Windows update that this Microsoft's KB article refers to.

My first PC running the same version of Windows 10 has KB4462933 installed and the virtual drive is not a problem

That's strange. Are you sure it is this exact KB number? Were you able to create virtual drives on the other PC after uninstalling this KB? If you didn't try it please do it to verify that KB4462933 is the problem.

In the list of installed updates clicking on KB4462933 does nothing - no option to uninstall it - strange because with the other updates the option is there. I could do another clean install and try before the updates get applied. Dont really want to do that though, because its a pain to reinstall all my other software.
My first PC defo has this update in place I double checked the number.
Is there a possibility of a conflict with any of my other sata drives I wonder? When PC was delivered only one of the BD writers was visible, had to plug into different port on main board

From the customers' forum:

I have two 64 bit W10 version 1803 PCs.  Alcohol 52% on one and 120% on the other.  I installed KB4462933 on both, rebooted and neither machine had their virtual drives.  I attempt to add a virtual drive on both, the message appears that it is applying the virtual drive settings, but no virtual drives are added.  Going back to the virtual drives settings screen shows the number of virtual drives as 0.  I have confirmed by uninstalling this KB that functionality is restored.

Any way to allow windows updates to continue to be installed and keep Alcohol running with virtual drives?

Thanks

Robbo, an administrator of Alcohol Soft forum, replied that it is a known issue. That's all I know myself. If there is something more or different to be found about this problem, that is the job of Alcohol's Development Team.

Thought I would offer what happened to my Alcohol 120% 2.0.3 build 11012.

On 14 Nov 2018 downloaded and installed Microsoft Update KB4467702 (after install it listed as Windows 8 update)

After Microsoft Update KB4467702 installed could not create any virtual drive(s) in Alcohol 120%.

Had to 'uninstall' KB 4467702 (which takes massive amount of time) and then had to SHUT DOWN before completed and 'reboot' to complete uninstall.

Then I could create virtual drive(s) as usual.

Hope this helps someone.

Ony use virtual drives because really old games where CD's not able to be replaced but still good for Windows 10.

Windows 10 32bit (really old machine but still usable - kept WinXP since it came out)

Now you have to uninstall KB4467702 just so you can uninstall KB4462933. These updates are stacking up. Hopefully they come up with a fix for this soon.

Specially created an account here to say that after upgrading from 1803 to 1809 (with installed both mentioned here cumulative updates ealier) virtual drive started to work back again after manual adding from app interface...

Please be aware that this cannot be treated as universal 100% solution... for me it worked... but before upgrade I made a full backup of my OS using my favorite backup software Paragon Hard Disk Manager 15 Professional SP5

I can confirm. The virtual machine boot issue causes a KB4467702 cumulative update in Windows 10 x64. Personally tested. When I update the uninstalled virtual drives work. After you reinstall that update no longer. Tested on Windows 10 Pro x64.

I'm having problems too.  I used to have 4 virtual drives.  Now, I''m guessing, after a windows update they are all gone and I can't create new ones.

I'd just like to chime in and say I'm also having this issue. I'm on Windows 10 and tried uninstalling Alcohol, restarting, uninstalling SPTD, restarting, deleting sptd2.sys and the sptd registry key and uninstalling the Alcohol DVD driver in Device Manager I noticed it left behind, restarting, installing SPTD, restarting, and then installing Alcohol. No dice - when I select the number of virtual drives to 2, and I have This PC open, I can briefly see it create a drive, then it disappears as soon as "settings are applied," and the number of drives resets to zero. I am on the latest Alcohol version (2.0.3) and latest SPTD (Windows 10, 2.12 x64.) I also checked I don't have an UpperFilters/LowerFilters key for my DVD driver and I do not.

Thanks for all the information and please wait for the next version of Alcohol. Until then you can uninstall the two mentioned updates that cause trouble (KBKB4462933 and KB4467702) or try with Windows 10 1809.
